Bruins lead after first day of Ashford Invite
Garner and Matthews tied for tournament lead with 2-under 70's ...
RIVERSIDE, Iowa -- Led by John Matthews and Davis Garner, the Bellevue University men's golf team has a one-stroke lead after the first day of competition in the Ashford University Spring Invitational being played at the Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.
As a team, the Bruins shot an opening round team score of even par, 288, one stroke ahead of tournament host Ashford's 289.
Matthews and Garner are tied for the overall individual lead, as both posted 2-under par scores of 70. Jose Vega is tied for eighth with an even-par 72. Mike Hannon is currently tied for 29th with a 4-over 76. Tomas Ovejero shot a 6-over 78 and is tied for 38th.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday (April 6) with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
