Vega, Matthews lead Bruins at Nationals

SALEM, Ore. -- The Bellevue University men's golf team sits in 25th place after the first round of the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships at the Creekside Golf Club. The University of Victoria (B.C.) leads the four-day tournament with a team score of 296.

The Bruins, who are making their first NAIA National Tournament appearance in their inaugural season, will tee-off in Wednesday's second round beginning at 12:40 p.m. Pacific time.

Bellevue shot a first round team total of 327.

Jose Vega led the Bruins with a three-over-par 75 while John Matthews recorded a first round score of 77.

Other Bruin golfers included Jeff Shermoen (83), Tanner Alder (92) and Javier Franco (95).
