LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Lee Ames and Thomas Hammock both made six 3-pointers and combined for 38 points to lead the eighth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team to a 98-76 win at Haskell Indian Nations University Friday night in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Tony Coffin Sports Complex.
Bellevue has now won eight of its last nine games and improved to 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the MCAC while Haskell Indian Nations fell to 6-14 and 2-4 in conference action.
Ames finished with 20 points and Hammock poured in a career-high 18 points to pace the Bruins.
Given Kalipinde recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The senior from Zambia, Africa also made six of his eight field goal attempts.
BU used an early 15-2 run to open up a 17-5 lead just four minutes into the first half. The Indians answered back and scored the next eight points to pull within four, 17-13, at the 13:47 mark, but that's the closest they got as the Bruins outscored HINU by seven to close the opening period and take a 46-35 advantage at halftime.
The Bruins shot 64.5 percent from the field and led the entire second half as they posted the 22-point conference road win, 98-76.
HINU was led by Stand Lovato's game-high 24 points.
The Bruins will travel to Bartlesville, Okla. tomorrow (Feb. 1) for a 5:00 p.m. conference game at Oklahoma Wesleyan University (15-7, 5-1 MCAC).
