Former Bruin Thompson inks professional contract

SANTA FE, N.M. -- Former Bellevue University baseball standout Brandon Thompson has signed with the Santa Fe Fuego of the Pecos League, an independent professional baseball league.

The Plains, Mont., native has appeared in five games on the mound and has compiled 13 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work.

He struck out a season-best five batters against the Alpine Cowboys on July 12.

Thompson ended his career fourth in home runs (24) and fifth in RBIs (122). He batted .377 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs and 61 RBIs to earn first team all-MCAC honors as a senior last season.
