BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Head coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of first baseman/utility player Brian Embery (Emporia, Kan./Wayland Baptist/Lower Columbia/Auburn HS) to join the Bruin baseball program in 2013.
The son of Sue and Brian, he played two seasons at Wayland Baptist University under head coach Brad Bass. He batted .404 as a sophomore in 2010 before hitting .320 as a junior. He recorded 23 doubles, six triples, 18 home runs and 92 RBIs in his two seasons for the Pioneers.
Embery began his collegiate career at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Wash., where he hit .364 in 19 games.
"We are excited to have Brian joining the Bruin baseball program. He is a versatile kid that has the ability to play multiple positions," said Monlux. "He has spent time in the outfield, at the corner infield positions and even time at second base which is very unusual for a big kid. He had two very good offensive seasons for Wayland Baptist in the very competitive Sooner Athletic Conference. He will be a senior for us this season. We are expecting big things from Brian."
The 2012 Bruins finished with a 40-21 overall record, winning the MCAC regular season with a 17-3 mark, advancing the NAIA National Tournament for the second-straight year.
